Indonesia // 7 great restaurants in Ubud, Bali

There’s no way around it, Ubud is one of the most popular places in Bali. Ubud’s bustling streets are packed with hundreds of great bars and restaurants, so making a choice can sometimes be challenging. You can find excellent Indonesian food on almost every corner of the street, but if you’re looking for something a bit different, these are the places you shouldn’t miss!

1. Habitat Cafe

Not only do they serve the best fries in town (yep, we’re from Belgium…. :) !), Habitat is also a great place to enjoy a healthy lunch after being chased by the cheeky monkeys of the Sacred Monkey Forest across the road. The fresh spring rolls are little chunks of heaven! This trendy restaurant also has great coffee and fast WiFi, so very travel blogger friendly :-)

2. Kebun Bistro

Entering this place pretty much felt like we were being transported to a lovely bistro somewhere in the South of France! After being away from Europe for over a year, we just couldn’t get enough of the wonderful charcuterie and the typical French onion soup. But what we enjoyed the most were without a doubt the over-the-top delicious Crème Brûlée and Mille-Feuille desserts!

3. Warung Citta Ovest

This has to be one of the best values in town! A tiny place that fills up rapidly, but if you manage to get a seat you wont be disappointed. Great pizzas and pastas at supercheap prices, if you’re on a budget this is the place to be! The fresher than fresh fruit juices are delish too!

4. Warung Siam Ubud

Okay, going to a Thai restaurant in Indonesia might sound a little weird, but we still believe this place deserves a spot in our Top 7. The delicious thai curries beautifully presented on wooden plates just made us go back again, and again and again… :)

5. Fair Warung Balé – Fair Future Foundation

Eating for a good cause, how awesome does that sound!? This super popular warung is part of a non-profit organization that supports and funds a Public Health Care Program. Excellent Indonesian cuisine at a fair price is the name of the game, so be sure to come in early to reserve your seat!

6. Kafe (Bali Spirit Kafe)

Great place for fresh fruit juices and healthy snacks, although they have some pretty darn good tiramisu as well! A popular place that seems to be busy all day long. It offers amazing panoramic views over the surrounding rice paddies. You’ll pass this place when hiking the gorgeous Campuhan Ridge Walk, excellent spot for a well-earned break if you ask us :)

7. Tukies Coconut Shop

The concept is simple: coconut and everything associated with it. We just looooved to duck into this place when we needed a break from the hot and humid Balinese weather. Nothing beats a freshly cut young coconut to cool down a bit, or even better, a scoop of the most delicious coconut ice cream topped up with pieces of fresh coconut meat and palm sugar!

They also sell a range of coconut-based products that are very hard to resist: coconut biscuits, coconut butter, coconut muesli…*drool*…
